If the World Stood Still
I wonder what would happen if the world stood still
Just for a moment
For the briefest whimsy of time
Yet we were fluid
Transient
If heartbeats stalled their recurring rhythm
And exhalations brought like benedictions
Sunk into the never ending sky
As stillness invades the skin and mind
If the incanescent stars served as anchors
For galaxies of molten onyx
Yet ceased their dancing with the moon and the tides
If whispered word slipped through fingers
And melted to the floor
As promises dance unbroken
Through the shadows in the air
I wonder what would happen if this stillness
Became tangible
If white crests of the ravenous tide ceased in
Throwing themselves desperately into the
Everlasting arms of sun kissed sand
While the heart of the sea sinks
And sings
If the scorched Earth beneath the unrelenting sun
Through fields of wildflowers
Heard whispers of a breeze whistling
Humming an otherworldly melody
As we are caught in this infinite dance
In our own eternity
If crystalline sighs were stamped into
The peppermint wind and silky sky
Like the twirling of a petal as
Caramel air captures it in a kiss through its
Downward ballet
To Earth's waiting arms
If the buttercups shielded themselves
From the caress of the breeze
And glass castles
Of snow stood stoic on mountaintops
Unyielding to the harsh whispers
That lash in an endless whir
I wonder what would happen if the world stood still
