If you truly knew me

Surrounded by the deep scent of mahogany pews

and the illusion of rainbows leaping from stained glass

I take a deep breath

and reflect on this moment as being a division between my life

before and after what I was about to do.

As the words

“I’m bisexual”

broke from my lips

for the first time in front of a real life human

not the one staring back at me

as I practice this line a dozen times in the mirror

I am embraced

by the arms of my best friend.
