I know you want me back

I can hear it in your voice

you beg, you say, “it will be different this time”

Just like it was the time before and the time before that.

Why do you want me back?

You think I’m the answer to all of your problems

You think I give you purpose in life

You think I am your burden to bear

But mama let me tell you,

I am nobodies to own

You always told me never to be trapped

You warned me to stay free

You used to say, “honey, don’t end up like me”

And when I check that box, “emancipated” I am free

I break those chains which you have built for me

I thought that’s what you wanted for me.

I am free to be my own woman

I’m better off without you, trust me I am.

But no mama, You want me back.

Well, If you want me back some things have got to change

Promise you won't hit me
