Ignorance

I love her

yet I don’t know why

she steps only on my feet

while we dance.

I love him

yet I don’t know why

he insists on wearing shoes

infested with bugs.

I love her

yet I don’t know why

she adorns shoes upon

her hands as she reads.

I love him

yet I don’t know why

he dons mittens

on his toes to write.

I love her

yet I don’t know why

she takes us swimming

when I’m deathly allergic to chlorine.

I love him

yet I don’t know why

he flails about wildly

in the pool.

I love her

yet I don’t know why

she refuses to let

me clean up.

I love him

yet I don’t know why

he can’t seem to keep

things tidy.

We love each other
yet we don't know why
we love each other.
