*Ijeoma
I fell
Cracked on the broken pavement.
I fell
Pushed beyond the reaches of control.
I fell
Waiting in vain for the King’s men.
I rose
From the ashes of crushing failures.
I rose
Far above the depths of defeat and agony.
I rose
Too empty to fight yet too stubborn to surrender.
I fight
Driven beyond my confines.
I fight
For the freedom I deserve.
I fight
For the me that I should be.
I stand
Taller despite the height.
I stand
Fuller of passions without gluttony.
I stand
Greater but without ego.
For the me I have always been.
For the me I will always be.
The ire of society cannot stop me
Neither can it move me.
I have no use for surrender
Nor defeat.
I fall, I rise, I fight,
And I am still left standing,
Unbreakable, unmovable,
Indomitable.
*Roughly translates to “Good Journey” in Igbo
