I'll Be Home
He said I’ll be back later tonight, around 10 o’clock
Make sure you stay up and keep the door unlocked.
I’ll be in your arms, we’ll fall asleep together,
Just wait until tonight and I promise things will be better.
He kissed her forehead and headed for the door,
Whispered I love you and she said “I love you more.”
She fell back asleep like she does every morning,
Fell back into dreams, and continued her soaring.
She got up from bed hours later and got ready for the day
She walked around the house looking at his pictures on display.
Smile so big, as she waited for him to come home,
Smiled even bigger realizing she wouldn’t be alone.
It wasn’t until four that day when she turned on the TV,
Saw the last thing she ever thought she’d see.
Red pickup truck, flipped over the road,
Images upon images came up and were shown.
Paramedics and firemen, its all the same,
She couldn’t get by crying, seeing his name.
Man killed, 25
They tried to save him, but he couldn’t stay alive.
She fell to the floor, and held her heart,
She couldn’t believe that they were finally apart.
She’d been waiting all for him to come home,
Now all she has is the images that were shown.
She cried herself to sleep that night remembering what he said,
The pillow was soaking as she laid there in bed.
She whispered I’ll love you forever, and miss you more everyday
She said I’ll never forget you, and that you didn’t come home that day.
