I'll Tell You What Love Is
Maybe you should have thought
Before you brought that wore into your bed.
Maybe you should have cared
that you left my heart as good as dead.
How can you look me in the eye and say,
that after this you love me still.
Don't say such things.
You left of your own free will.
But it doesn’t matter,
I know what love is now.
Because while you were away
I met another who made that same vow.
He spoke a word that did not exist
and I told him just as much.
Love is just a silly game.
My heart is not for another to touch.
But he took my hand and
still claimed to know.
He drew me close and
promised to someday show.
And even though he turned away,
His promise did he keep.
I have learned to love just as he said I would
A feeling so strong it makes me weep.
He never lied or sought to harm,
held me near but never pushed for more.
He called me beautiful,
And had a passion I will always adore
Hid a caring heart behind a dark hood.
When I was hurting, he was there.
Made me feel safe,
despite his ruffian flair
Because I love him
I’ll never forget the wit of his tongue,
How he use to laugh and sing.
The way he made the world seem young
Because I love him,
I’ll never forget that mischievous grin,
crazy spirit, gentle touch,
Or even the stubble of his chin
Now I know I can find love.
He taught me what it means to care.
No blinds of lies were ever drawn.
This was never just a silly affair.
When you love someone, you never forget
No matter where they go.
True love will never hurt your heart
It will only make you grow
