Illusions

The trust I reposed in myself was unfathomable.

Air tight, solid.

My perspective, unique. My taste, flawless.

I see the good in people.

Just about everyone has a good side.

That view hasn't changed.

It's just altered.

So determined to see good in the world,

I shot myself in the foot.

Blinded to the truth, I saw things that weren't there.

My heart bled for I was betrayed.

Betrayed, by the very thing I trusted.

My eyes. My judgment and decision making.

Only if I had doubted just a little.

Only if I pondered to ask "could this really be all true."

My heart would be in a better place if my sight and mind did their job.

In the end, my blurred vision resulted in a mirage.

From the prison of my mind, words break free so they can breathe life into me.
