Illusions

Smiling, laughing
Acting my happy way
No one would ever guess
It's all an elaborate play

When silence comes
And the music cease
My head droops low
Sorrow is the larger piece

The blooming flowers wilt
The opaque mask falls away
My heart sinks inside of me
Just an ordinary day

My pain, it works in such a way
That no one will ever believe
Each day my tears scream aloud
Trying to devour me

Still no one comes foward
With arms to go around
I'm left shivering
With no warmth to surround

Each night my tears reach the open air
Falling to the ground
With no one there to break their fall
To the floor they continuously pound

Yet each morning I attach my mask
Slip into my smile
No one will see through those lies
Not for a long, long while
