Illustrious
Incessant, constant tugging of the sediment that keeps me bound
Forever I have to roam this place, chained, never to be found
Illusions tangible yet shimmering as they cackle words of despair
I try to find the melody between the screeching, maddening affair
I am confined to this rock, attached to the hardened surface by my wrists
Weighed down by past, trying desperately to resist
Through the tears, fist clenched, knowing I cannot break free
I quietly stop struggling to softly sing a melody
Through the lyrics and cadence I’m able to realize
That this void, this abyss endeavored to keep me hypnotized
Nodding my head, rhyming my verses, the shadows dissipate
I find myself surrounded by what I was trying to illustrate
Fresh music, fresh poems, broken down by the beauty inside
These limericks paint the world with our own alluring design
While the past may guide us and the present define us
We are what we say, we are what we write…illustrious.
