I'm From
I'm from my mothers womb
blood, sweat, and tears
she went through toil for me
Im from, two-tone durags
with a, you do this and I'll do that
I'm too tired son;
2 shifts is way more than what I asked for
Where I'm from, you leave your self last,
housewarming gifts for the home warming guest
“Por que mi casa, es su casa” dirian
Im from, the taste in the air of fresh cut grass
and the smell of tanbark on a hot summer day
With Mickey Mouse ice cream pops
the cold melting cream, running down your hand
I’m from dirty, grass stained, khakis
with the, same old shoes and faded-out, hand-me-down, polos
with old clothes that stretch every which way
I'm from tear stains on the diner table
My father’s empty seat
My mother's smothering love
Its weird how she only knew how to cook for 3
So now theres always leftovers
Like tupperwares sticking out of the moist backyard
uprooted flowers here and there
tulips and lilies
Looking like a grave for the beautiful
Where I'm from, you take summer trips to The Pool and
and winter trips to The Park
with hot coco
over ice
Melting-
-pot of culture
Where I'm from, you don't disrespect one another
you get smacked if you do
My mother might look like a fragile little women
but I swear to God her backhand is made of steel
Never stole a thing in my life
Because where I'm from
you better make sure
you do you, while I do mine
because there's nothing stronger than latino pride
I'll stand, chin up like a lion
while I recite this
Because where I'm from
where she from
were we from
were it from
my mothers womb maybe
its all about pride (x2)
