I'm Bored

Right now there exists
Deep in the world's waters
A sea bug that fights with its fists
Which move faster than a bullet.

If our arms could move at a tenth of that pace
We'd have the ability to pitch
A baseball into out space.
Everyone, meet the Mantis Shrimp.

While you're pondering that,
Consider this fact:
We have between our ears
An important lump we hold dear.

It runs off the food we eat
And controlls everything, from our hands to our feet.
This grey matter we call the brain
Is what makes us human.

Switch thoughts now to planet Earth.
The perfect globe that gave birth
To the mantis shrimp and you and me,
Yet is often telling us pretty clearly,

"Look, folks, you chose the wrong place to live!"
With these earthquakes deadly and tsunamis massive."
Yet we cling to the hostile rock,
Even as it tries to knock off our socks.

New notion: American politics.
Now there's a dangerous mix.
Things keep getting worse and worse.
Who's to blame? That conversations is quite terse.

Anyway, how about that Internet?
All that time to be wasted, and yet
Such a huge database
of stuff (albeit organized without much grace)!

One last thing: The past.
Things to be learned from that vast
Expanse of human experience
If you have a little patience.

And you tell me you're bored?
It makes me want to shout, "My Lord!"
Just look out the window and you're set,
Or, failing that, go on the internet.

Study history and biology and geography and politics
Then study the stars and neuroscience and toothpicks!

Just don't say you are bored.
Everyone should find it absurd
If they hear that there's nothing to do;
Because it's simply untrue.
