I'm Different
When you look at me, look at my kind heart.
When you look at me, look past my small brown eyes.
When you look at me, look at my smile.
When you look at me, look past my yellow toned skin.
When you meet my parents, do not be surprised. They are different. I am different.
I stand out here.
Meet my mother and father, my mother with her fair toned skin and round green eyes. My father with his gray hair and again round green eyes.
You act skepticle but I stand by the fact they are my parents just as much as your parents are to you.
Our meeting was different
We met in an airport, in the United States
Five months after my birth, in Korea.
I grew up different. I am growing up different. I will grow up to be different.
Do not think I do not see you stare at me in the halls.
I want to scream out, "I'M AN AMERICAN JUST LIKE YOU"
I want to change the way people look at adoptees. I want to change the way people look at me.
