i'm fine
no i’m not fine
of course i’m not fine
i knew this was inevitable
that this was imminent
as all truly sensational episodes are
like the collision of galaxies
a burst of light and sound and color
yet
just as quickly as it has begun
it must end
the finality is quite certainly the most reassuring part
like how a tot relishes in the silky smoothness of their blanket
i know that the end is upon us
i find security in that
and
as you start the next chapter
and i’m like that dog-eared, torn-up page that reminds you of
that golden flash of yesterday to be cherished but slowly and surely forgotten
i’m just that tie that binds
that chain that holds you back when you want to soar
but
i’m also the one who sees the places you can go
i see who you will be
and how to get there
and the answer is not me
it’s never been me
so i will be strong
not in the way i hold you back
as i have before
but in the nudge out of the nest
and into the great wide world
that i will give you
i hope you find your way
as clear as day
and as easy as the breeze on a midsummer’s morning
as for me
i’ll find my way
