I'm Not Perfect, Why Do You Expect Me To Be?

I’m not perfect so why do you expect me to be?

I’m not perfect

Yet you seem to expect me to be

I make mistakes

Sometimes I have lapses in judgment

Everyone does

But you probably didn’t expect me  to

I’m a teenager

This is the time we make our biggest mistakes

I make some minor ones

And you get mad at me like you never made mistakes

You were a teenager once

You made mistakes then

Why are you getting so mad that I’m making mistakes now?

I make good grades

I do what you ask

But the minute I mess up the slightest bit you get after me

I may not be perfect

But I try my hardest

But you only seem to see my mistakes

I have lapses in judgment

You act like you never did

I try hard everyday

But I guess that’s not enough

Everyone makes mistakes

You make it seem as if you never thought I’d make one

You seemed so disappointed in me

You probably didn’t realize how much that hurt

I try to make you proud but sometimes it never seems to be enough

What more can I do?

So I make mistakes

All teenagers do

You act like a few mistakes will change me forever

I’m still the same person

I just have moments of weakness

So why do you make it seem like I ruined my future forever?
