I'm Not You

I don’t care what they say, I’m nothing like you.

I don’t care what they think, I’m just fine without you.

I don’t care how they feel, I never needed you.

I don’t care what they think they know, I will never be the junior version of you.

You can say what you want, but an apology doesn’t erase a childhood.

You can think what you want, but my mom wouldn’t do what you would.

You can feel however you do, but your parenting isn’t that good.

You may think you know me, but there’s no way you could.

Every Christmas you weren’t there I found myself staring at an empty chair.

All the birthdays that passed by in your absence silently filled me with despair.

You owe me for more than you realize, for all the times I needed you, but you weren’t there.

So how dare you have the audacity to not even care?
