I'm Older Now

Dear Mom and Dad,

I love you both

You've clothed me and fed me before I could do it for myself

You've helped me through all of my problems

You've stopped me from doing things I shouldn't

You've raised me

I'm older now

In a year's time, I'll be eighteen

I'll have to clothe and feed myself

I'll have to deal with my own problems

I'll have to think for myself whether something is right or wrong

I have to live for myself

I'm older now

I miss the days when life was carefree

I miss the days when my main problem was my homework, not a scholarship

I miss the days when the two of you could make all of my problems go away

I'm older now

Adulthood is approaching fast and sometimes I don't know how to deal with it

I cry

I get upset

I worry that I'm not prepared

I'm actually older now

I remember all that the two of you have done

I remember my goals

I remember that you'll always be there for me

I remember that I can always count on the two of you

Even though I'm older now
