I'm sorry

Mama I'm sorry I couldn't help you I'm sorry my hands were too small to keep his fists away from you I'm sorry I couldn't dry off your tears I'm sorry I couldn't heal your deep wounds You didn't have to take the fall all day every day All you ever did was care for him and us but in return all you got was a beating All you got was a  scar that bled for days I'm sorry he never cared I'm sorry he never felt your pain Im sorry he thought you were a punching bag I'm sorry I didn't try hard enough I should have crawled faster and pulled his jeans with more strength I should have taken that brush when you wanted to cover your scars Mama hear my cry and heal my heart Mama I'm sorry for what he did If I cried a little more maybe he would have stopped Maybe you would be there to see me take my first steps Mama I'm sorry you died young I'm sorry you died in the arms of an abusive man I'm sorry i didn't help
