I'm still Awake

Are you asleep yet?

Trapped within these four walls

made of linoleum and useless things,

Can you see the sky?

When you gaze outside at the moon,

and the stars,

and the quiet way the streetlamp shone,

Can you hear the crickets chirp?

Across, the bricks and mortars hide the trees,

and the horizon from which the sun rests.

A pale moon dangles far away,

and the light taints your perfect view.

A heavy sadness rests on my chest,

and fills my eyelids.

Drowning, oh my eyes close,

as I struggle to stay awake.

There are ghosts trapped in these chests,

wrapped in bundles of silver chains.

They stay in the basement, where

a single ray of light beams down

trapping them and their wickedness.

Darkness enters my vision

but my mind stays awake.

I refuse to sleep,

because I know when I awake,

the orange and yellows

of the coming sun

will ruin this quiet peace of

Yesterday.
