Imaginary

Dear Imaginary Friends,

You began when I was just four,

colorful, bouncing companions.

You kept away the lonliness

You were pure and good and true.

Now I am already fourteen,

My imaginary friends changed,

because although they live and breathe,

They exclude and betray and leave.

Figments of imagination,

Fickle friendships haunt memories.

As deep as divorce and as real

As the tears that roll down her cheek.

Why are we not close anymore?

Why do we not meet each other's eye?

I guess I was imagining

I'm sorry, but I don't know why.
