Imagine a girl

Imagine a girl
With eyes wide
But mouth sewn shut
A brain trapped
Unable to
Commune
With those just outside her hand built
Walls

Now imagine that girl
In a classroom
Surrounded by those who
Don't bother to listen
When the woman in the flower printed dress
With pursed lips and tired eyes
 says
"Write a poem"

The girl thinks " I can't"
Poems have emotion, meaning
"How can I write something that has what I do not"
She stares she thinks then
She lets go

The words run and run and run and run
Line after line projecting
thoughts
memories
Emotions
On to paper
Finally finally
The poem is done
And the girl feels better than she has in years

She turns it in and gets an A+
She feels cheated
How can this woman with tired eyes and pursed lips and a flowery dress put a letter on this piece of paper containing her thoughts and emotions.
"From now on" she thinks
"My poetry is for me."
