An Immigrants Dream.
I have a dream that one day, illegal immigration will be a thing of the past. Men, women and children shouldn’t have to endanger their lives to get to the land of opportunity or die not getting the taste of the sweet freedom that everyone in the overcrowded truck whispers to each other's ears like a comforting lullaby.
I have a dream that the government would stop throwing around the topic of immigration laws, just because it hasn’t been on the news in a few months because there is a new family fresh from China that gets excited about the talk of new immigration laws, but quickly learns that the government is all talk and no walk.
I have a dream that immigrates won’t have to watch every corner they walk by for an authority figure in the land of the free. That a busy mom of two is driving, doesn’t have to pretend that one of the houses on the streets is hers, or take an alternate route in fear that the police car behind her will stop her and ask her in English, “License and registration.” And she would stumble over her poorly translated English and say, “License, no have.”
I have a dream that a good education shall be given to those who are not from the land of hard work and determination. To the little girl who suffered after the public school bilingual preschool program got cut because there wasn’t enough funding. Going into kindergarten not knowing how to tell you what she is drawing, but she can surely tell you what colors she used. When she grows up and finds out that she can’t go to college, because well she has the grades but not the papers.
Well that is America, right?
