Impasse

I take a step back to meet you on our path to uncertain descent, weary, yet hopeful. Heart spent. You take a step forward once to show me that you can meet me at the juncture, just to show me how close we can get following the severance, to the archaic, long remembered dream conceived from our delusional realm. Then repeatedly you allow each obstacle to come between us; the real; the imagined; the invented, like dense, beached, implanted rocks. You punish me for not yielding to your fixed gestalt. You watch my frustration with amusement at the halt, just steps away in reality; when a cavern lays between us in our intimacy.
