Imperfect Love for Imperfect Lovers

From me to you and from you to me,

Love flows without uncertainty.

I trust in your word and you trust in my heart.

In my affection and admiration, you take part.

But true love is not blind.

It does not hide from fault.

One day I may hurt you

And you may be appalled.

Life is not a fairy tale.

Nor is loving always easy.

But in the midst of any pain and strife,

My love is not a maybe.

For I know that humanity is corrupt,

And people make mistakes.

As imperfect myself,

I do my best to repair for love’s sake.

So love me and I will love you,

And all your mistakes too.

You may be just human, but that’s all I need:

A heart I may love despite some wicked deed.
