Implied

Because “I love you” is always hard to say

We find ourselves looking for another way

To speak those words of hidden truth

Especially while still in our youth.

“I love you” shifts into another phrase

As we walk through these long days

We should go get some food

But only if you’re in the mood.

Did you study? Me neither

Let’s just take a little breather

Missed the notes, do you want mine?

These little things are not benign

Please let me braid your hair

It’s just a way to show they care

Make yourself at home

As if my heart could ever roam.

So many pretend to love

But it is they who rise above

Waiting there with arms open wide

For all of our love is simply implied.
