Impoverished

Standing at an intersection Holding a cardboard sign Scrawled on with a sharpie Found lying around Cars pass And pass And pass This is humiliating Still they pass The hot sun beats down, Still standing Rain pours, And pours, And pours, Still standing In heat or cold In an old, tattered coat Begging for help Sitting down in the grass Or a park bench Trying to get some sleep The cycle repeats Go to a soup kitchen Still standing Begging for a scrap of food Or something for warmth Never a job available Still there is hope
