Inaccurate Childhood Proverb

Sticks and stones may break my bones but words also hurt me.

These bundles of letters that we give meaning

both physically and mentally change me

Sometimes for good, others for bad.

i am still me

i try to hold on

but i feel like something is wrong with me

Too many things i allow to make bruises

thinking something that needs to be altered within me

Reminiscing about younger days:

A boy, i thought my confidant, was not afraid

to admit my premature womanly body was all but alluring

after my fondness was conveyed.

i fall apart with each bash.

i feel like sometimes

i might altogether crash.

If only i knew that most important

is what I feel about me.

I have to learn that other people don't always see

Myself the way that I see me.

I am the only one that must believe in me.

Once my confidence can shield me,

Trees and boulders will not reach me.

Even the brutality of others

through ignorant blabber

will no longer phase me

I need to learn to love me.

I will.
