Inaugural Speech

Feeling as bambi
knees are weak,
breathing kinda heavy.
Every step I take
more difficult to progress,
after feeling like I’ve regressed.

The stage, the podium
can’t speak a word.
Cat got my tongue.
All is in thought,
what I just ate.
Instead of thinking,
who’s in their underwear?

Mind’s blocked
Nervous sweat is a–drippin’
as a summer’s rain.
Pessimistic thoughts
are running through my mind.
Can I make it through this?

I gotta step back
Take a breath of fresh air
And tell myself this:
Fake it til I make it.

Reel back my confidence
Stand tall and proud
with my head up in the clouds.
I gotta clear my throat to speak
as if I spoke my own
inaugural speech.

Uproar of applause is what I hear,
Appreciation.
This is what I need to keep going,
a–steam rollin’ of confidence.
Til I give my own
inaugural speech.
