The Inchworm

The inchworm does not crawl an inch at a time, But mere millimeters with every creep in his climb. Yet we named him the "inch worm" like it’s some encouraging quip, As if we know him and hope that he wins in his trip. We cheer for the little guy that we all see outside, Because in each of us there is a little guy who’s set right aside. However, for me that little guy is not all alone, But he's my very existence from my skin to my bone. Every step that I take is a millimeter ahead While I think in inches as I lie down in bed. I don't cut out the corners and I work through the sweat Just to save up the quarters to push off the debt. I build up my millimeters to turn them to inches, And I collect up those inches to turn into feet. My feet travel so far before they are miles and I'm running even faster through all these trials With my shoes ripping to shreds over the hills of the folly Dodging the bits, fits, tricks and all of the volley I’ll circumnavigate the globe well beyond 20 times over Just to conquered my fears and deny all of the doubters and I’ll stop. The inchworm does not crawl an inch at a time, But mere millimeters with every creep in his climb. All those miles traveled a millimeter at a time Need to be made worth it for each and every rhyme.
