Independence

There once was a beautiful girl

who always tried to do right

with the help of her mother

she was surely bright

Over the years

Time went by

She was alone

and started to cry

But one day

she told herself

enough is enough

and went along in stealth

“I must get through this!”

she said

prayed hard

and picked up her head

Head held high

She depended upon no one

developing a pride

she could not run from

“Alone”, she thought

was the best way

“no one else”, she thought

would want to stay

Because of the walls

that she put up

she could not get

her cup filled up

with blessings

pouring down from above

many of

peace and of love

Running away from pride

in search of peace

this girl

is me
