Independent Thought

In school you are always taught to be

an independent thinker.

And the teacher always says

"Analyze the story"

and "Think outside the box"

and so you read it

and you underline

and you highlight

and you breath it.

And then you learn an opinion—

another opinion of the author

and you say to yourself

"And how will this help me?"

and your teacher will say

"And that is how the story applies to the rest of real life."

So now you go home

and independently think.

And you'll think about why milk is white

and why orange juice is orange

and than you'll wonder why people are mean

and why life is so hard

and why it is so cruel

and why it is against you

and why you are here

and you just independently think

and you go unchecked

and slip into a collapsing star—

a collapsing star of the mind.

And then you wonder how your innocences has slipped by.
