I shiver as the night's breeze strangles me

I step out of his gray pickup truck

His tender arm wraps around me as I weep

I tell him about my worries and fears

He calms my apprehension

Tells me to count to three

I do and breathe in deep

He takes my hand in his

Traces the lines on my palm

"The future is ours" he says

3,261 miles away

"I'll see you on your birthday again

Finish your studies

I'll be there in Massachussetts with the rain"

His words are divine and sweet and soothing

I believe him

I believe in those ocean blue eyes

I believe in those arms that comfort me at my low

I believe in those lips that honesty slips out of

I believe in that voice that sings to me over the phone

I believe in the man that believes in me
