Indifference
As I sit here,
in my quiet house,
listening to memory's echoes,
I reflect on my life.
Though I have failed and fallen short,
I wouldn't change anything about myself.
If I did, I might not have learned all those valuable lessons.
Instead, I ponder over the world.
I hear the complaints,
so many in number,
so great in consequence.
Countless causes set out to change
numerous problems and atrocities.
And yet,
my main concern seems benign compared.
My greatest wish,
what I want changed,
would be the vast amount of indifference in the world.
Everywhere you look,
people ignore others' feelings,
don't care how their actions affect others.
If it all went away,
what a happier and more pleasant life
we would live in.
All I want is for empathy and love to thrive,
banishing meaningless indifference
from the ever present cloud of oppression.
