indifference

A stranger

Whose face is all I see

Follows me like a shadow

One moment here,

The next gone.

In my dreams,

We meet in warm conversation

I wake to a nightmare

The dreams still exist,

But the strangers nowhere near.

I’m afraid I’ll never forget

The words this stranger said

The softness in the touch.

The laughter in my bed.

In my dreams,

I get to pretend

That we’ll be together

But the dream has to end

Because when I wake,

You’re still a stranger again.
