Indigestion
after ingesting a star
it takes courage
to hurl dreams at a black hole, imagining they land
in a place we may touch
certain days, it is possible
to love something so much
to forget
the many times
your life
fell short
i was likely in love with you indefinitely
that moment you pretended to cup a butterfly
in the orchard,
which had possibly died
knowing nothing of galaxies
or safety nets,
but reminded you
we are only as vast
as our love in solitude
and when you sent that missive stating
there are no pure communities,
evil was omnipresent
i understood your spirit was weakening,
so i erected monuments
out of voices
formed from hearing
and the question became less about suffering
and more about if or not
i wore moccasins
to sleep
and every dawn
you’d gesture to the fire escape
and say
in event of a crisis,
this is how grace operates
