Individuality
Who am I?
You wouldn't know if I was fake like the rest of them
Unless you saw how they all succumb
To all the trends
How they treat all their “best friends”
The people they’ve known since junior high
Without this magical gift
I am nothing, but a pawn in a chess game
Just a girl who has yet to proclaim
That she’s just an everyday person
Who’s heart seems to worsen
When people tell her to get a face lift
I see myself for who I am
A girl who’s kind of quirky and a little bit of sad
Just because I’m black that doesn’t mean that I’m mad
But I’m sick and tired of the stereotypes
I’m given by from the stars and stripes
From good ol’ Uncle Sam
I don’t care that I don’t fit their picture
If I tried to be perfect
I would inflict
More damage than growth
I would loathe
Myself and write my concerns in a stricture
I love myself
I know it’s hard to see
How I don’t throw myself in the sea
Just like my ancestors did
Who maybe got eaten by a giant squid
Unlike them though, I have a sense of self
I have designated my role
I don’t allow others to call me worthless
Might have depression if you’re that mirthless
My talents do not allow me to stop
You’ll never see me flop
I am always in control
My individuality allows me to succeed
Without the approval of society
I will make my own notoriety
I will do it my way and mine alone
They can’t stop me when I’m in my zone
I’m nonstop until I die and bleed
