The Inescapable Necessity

In a world of materialism,

In a world of individualism,

In a time of fear,

In a time of knowledge,

There is only one thing I need: My mind.

My mind - a complex concept.

My mind - individual in its own right.

My mind - the root of personality.

My mind: A device of torture;

The birthplace of my darkness;

The core of my reality;

The foundation of my pain.

And yet, all thought starts and ends

In the seemingly unending abyss

Of such darkness.

Inescapable darkness, unending night.

Strip away materialism;

Force solitude onto me;

Instill a need to survive;

All that is left, is the mind.

My most powerful tool,

The epitome of self-preservation.

Sanity is the key to survival,

Materialism prevents adaptation.

In conquering my darkness

I will be able to truly survive.

My sanity is the most important attribute

To maintain lest the darkness take control.

So long as I am conscious

Of my reality and the world around me,

I need nothing more to survive.

My mind – an inescapable necessity.
