Infinity
Imagine this:
A day is an era,
as never ending
and unfathomable
as the stars.
Creatures,
as small as dust
and just as prominent,
who live on a rock
controlled by paper
sit in a small room
every day
and are instilled
with the promise
of tomorrow
that doesn't
exist.
They do not watch the sun rise.
They do not crawl to the very corners of their rock
to explore each and every beautiful inch.
They do not wish to fly anymore.
They do not grasp the universe.
They do not float in Poseidon's embrace,
chase Apollo's chariot across the sky,
revel in Aphrodite's beautiful creations.
They stay inside their little cubicle,
they study and cheat and stress
to get through
and find their little infinity
in their career where they will
grovel and sweat and toil
to get through
and find their little infinity
in making sure their children
will study and cheat and stress
so they can find their little infinity
in their career where they will
grovel and sweat and toil.
That is our little infinity.
These are our little lives.
