Influences
What I am
What I have become
For eighteen years I have become
The product of those who live,
Those engineers, unaware of their invention
Unaware that every word, every look,
Is another stroke of paint, another brick,
In the endless canvas
The ever growing structure.
The air around me.
The sounds, the colors.
It began with songs
Sang by a voice of love.
A voice that keeps me pure,
That keeps the sounds soft
And the colors warm.
The voice turned to voices
And the voices grew
To hundreds and to thousands.
Angry and yelling and happy and sad
Always talking things I didn't understand
On the screen that I began to idolize.
An idol that never faded,
But now that screen becomes a finish line
For I make my life the race.
To be that voice in the screen.
The voices drew closer.
Closer to mouths that I could touch
And whose ears heard voices too
For they themselves were stone.
And we carved each other
Bringing some of our art to one another.
And these voices will never silence,
For they will only change
Into what the world has made them now.
And I will never be finished.
Always growing, learning, changing
Into what I will be tomorrow.
So do not ask what I am,
But what I have been
And what I will be
Because they will never be the same.
Instead be the voice.
Be the hand that holds the brush.
Be the tool that carves the stone.
Be the voice in the screen.
Be the influence.
