Inner Demons
The light coming through the clouds
right before the sun sets leaves a trail of fire
But nothing compares to the way
your face lights up when she walks into the room
A pile of dirty laundry left all over the floor
because picking up those clothes means
reliving all those memories that you're no longer here to make
Staying together even if the feeling isn't there anymore
because it's too much effort to start over with someone new
Messy handwriting over all your papers to hide
the fact that you view yourself as a horrible monster
The muscles pinching your nerve causing carpal tunnel
just like the tears that pinch your head through the rough nights
A graveyard of old friends with distant memories that you can't bear to step foot in
because now it's just a reminder of how everything is worse now
The refusal to eat food because you've simply
lost the desire to eat and you're too fat for food anyways
Racing glances through the crowd to see which charade
of your being to act out based on the people around
A single tear rolling down your face because any more
would cause a flood and any less hides the pain deep inside
Blankets to cover you while you sleep so you don't feel so alone
in this messed up island of loneliness we're all stranded on
The sound of a door opening just to hear it shut again
like every missed opportunity that you weren't able to take
- These are the thoughts that engulf the silence and fade the world to black
