Innocence

Innocence,

Something I have and had received,

I too was a young fawn,

So innocent and young enjoying every moment,

But you grow up, 

 You don’t listen to your friends in the pack,

 AnD without antlers to hold you steady you begin to test things,

As I grew I began to walk along the woods alone,

Hungry to try something new,

To get a taste of what everyone was raving about,

I didn’t listen to advice at times,

I wish I would’ve,

Yet I wandered anyway,

I came upon an Opportunity,

An apple,

Crisp,perfect and oh so deceptive apple,

It was like honey,

But even honey occasionally comes  with a sting,

A bite was taken out of me,

Flecks of my blood poured out of me,

This was the experience?,

The wounds heal,

An my fur is now white as snow,

But the scars are still there,

An the doe I grew up to be is looked upon differently,

I’m seen as naive and gullible, 

Willing to reach as far as she can,

But to only fall short in the end.

My eyes have faced the headlight countless times,

As i watched my friends look death in the eye,

The road,

Where cars and deer meet,

It’s a game,

To see how close one can get to death,

And come back without any dents,

A thrill some say,

Yet once across they become drunk on their success,

Boasting of how they beat death,

But every once and a while death bites back,

There’s an occasional few,

That never make it across,

And we sit and watch as the friend we once knew,

Is now lying on the side of the road,

They lay there laughing thinking they succeeded,

Only if you look into their eyes they are in pain,

They die with that stupid smile on their face,

I've jumped I'm afraid to say,

I've had my scratches and bruises,

But i've learned my thrill is gone,

Now my wisdom is seen as stupidity,

 But i just don’t want be another deer caught in headlights
