Innocent Minds

Remember when? Back to when we used to

Play with each other in the mud and rain?

Our minds were so innocent. All we’d do

Is stay upbeat to not see the world’s train.

Imagination took away the pain

Of those who died at war, or abortion;

Cheated on a spouse or used Mary Jane.

It stopped them from seeing the distortion.

The perfect world we live in is not so

Perfect anymore. Real life sinks in and

We witness the cruel brokenness. We throw

Our life goals in the garbage we had planned.

That’s the only problem with growing old.

You see the world for all it is, dead cold.
