Inquiries of the Heart and Mind: the Wants and Needs of Youth
Our eyes locked dangerously
as the smoke from my cigarette filled my lungs.
I passed it to him,
his fingertips lingering on mine longer than necessary.
Reckless,
and dream-like,
the night went on.
Music blasted through the speakers,
and we became more comfortable,
too comfortable,
as the whiskey began to take over.
Each cigarette passed between us,
and each time the glimmer of quiet connection,
silent seduction,
lingered in his eyes.
His laughter rings through the room,
piercing the silent air.
Her heart overflows with joy.
His hand touches her cheek.
Her hand touches his hair.
Their hearts synchronize,
and time stands still.
Their eyes meet,
lock,
sparkle.
A steady calm washes over them,
And somehow,
nothing else matters.
A step forward,
he grabbed my heart.
Secured it in his chest,
and gave me his in return.
Tentatively, we waded
through these murky waves of confusion.
A solution struck us,
and we've found what we were looking for.
And we've found everything we needed.
Definition of the things we desire.
Admiration of our hearts on fire.
Simplification of our wild minds' race.
A destination for our inevitable fate.
