insatiable
I am insatiable
I can’t seem to find a comfortable place to rest my head
that’s not in the crook of my dreams and the corner of your smirk.
I want you. I want me. I want to propel like a helicopter into the stratosphere and taste UV rays of vanilla.
Remember being a kid and racing after the ice cream truck with a fist full of coins?
Remember summer concrete and climbing every tree in the park?
When was the last time you could feel those dandelions floating through your veins?
When was the last time you looked in the mirror and didn’t see landslides sledging under your eyes?
I am insatiable and can’t live without a destination.
Commas in my bank account. Your lips. A hurricane in heaven.
I would claw my way through kelp mobs if it means I wash ashore
on glittering, copper beaches.
It’s like training for a marathon that never comes.
I can’t live without that desperation
It has fused to the walls of my hollow organs
It has dropped the pitch of my voice
When weren’t you insatiable?
When I hear my father’s voice in ¾ time telling me he’s proud,
I know the folds of my sweater will wrap around me like a burrito
Then I will rest
When the house is quiet and the frogs have died,
I know sweet words will rock me to sleep
Then I will rest
Insatiable and unable to live without hunger
Insatiable and fueled by gasoline and espresso
I can’t live without racing to a diamond-studded finish line.
Without the drive and the goals
Without the ride and the gold
