On The Inside

There is no reason to hide what is not easily seen

No point in covering what lies in the shadows

No sense in lying about what you dream

Or wiping the invisible dust off your windows

You can if it gives you any piece of mind

If it lifts any weight off your shoulders

If it erases any stress you find

Or makes you feel any bolder

But if you want to let someone in

If you want them to really know you

If you want to show them where you’ve been

Or let them look at the world from your view

You have to unlock that box on the shelf

You have to switch on a flashlight

You have to truly show yourself

Or at least let them see the mess inside

At night there is beauty in the moon and stars

And during the day the beauty of the sun’s displayed

And there is also beauty in all of your scars

No matter what other people might say
