Inside the Mind of an Autistic Girl

By the time I was four, I discovered there was something strange about me.

Mom and dad thought I can’t hear because I ignored them.

We eventually went to see a doctor, he concluded I can hear.

But he suggested that I may have different wiring of the brain.

It was confirmed that I have autism.

He said there is a possibility that I will never speak and I have to be in special classes.

However, I managed to prove him wrong.

I am able to attend normal classes and I can speak fairly well.

But throughout the years I have a few quirky flaws that come with autism:

I hate the sound of belching as well as certain words,

I stutter a lot,

I am socially awkward,

I get meltdowns during intense stress,

I have horrible handwriting and drawing skills despite my love of art,

I am sensitive to textures of food like applesauce and rice,

I have a hard time concentrating or listening,

I am slow,

And I can’t function without listening to my favorite music on the internet.

However, I developed talents and interests to:

Fashion design and art,

Anime,

Music,

Animals,

Puzzle pieces,

Video games,

Movies,

And creativity.

As I grow, I wanted to improve myself as I have depression for a while;

I want to work for on fashion design as a career,

I want to attend a art school,

I have been trying different foods,

I want to drive more often and finally get my license,

And I have tried different foods, even ones that I have hesitated to eat in the past.

Day by day, I try to work up the energy and become a mature and independent adult.

And quite frankly, I think I can do it!

A lot of people with autism or Aspergers have despised a certain company for insulting them,

Even feeling irritated whenever they see a puzzle piece

While I can see why and I agree with them, I see a puzzle piece from my own perspective;

Everyone, especially autistics, are different like each puzzle piece,

Instead of excluding them, we should find a way to let them fit into society.

Because we are all different, and we all belong somewhere.
