Insignificant treasures

Isolation is a poison to the soul, leaving an itch that you cannot ignore. I ponder the people who could be my peers if only I put in the effort. The effect of hearing my single echoing heartbeat is hard to describe to those whose hearts beat in pairs. Still I prefer the empty echo to the stifling silence that surrounds me. Then there are the times that the silence brings only bliss, able to listen to the buzzing bees, the willow’s rustling in the wind. The sounds that society forget to enjoy are forced upon my consciousness. In these moments all that matters is the fact that no one is ever truly alone and even the silence is loud if you listen. Little joys in life often go unappreciated so perhaps it’s a gift that I get to notice these seemingly insignificant treasures.
