Insomnia (Bad, Worse, Worst)

Sun, 01/07/2018 - 14:53 -- CH

It’s bad when time pauses

A split second in between laughs

A drop of doubt plinking into vast lakes

And it’s worse when you’re alone

Like the black notes between ivory whites

Like a vacant emptiness, seemingly forever

But it’s worst before sleep

Thoughts that in the day lurked rather than prowl

Dreams of bridges and falling, of cars and collision.

I love this! I love the reference to the sharp notes.  Powerful metaphor!
