insomnia [don't break me]

I used to be a fan of sleep.

Now I'm not so sure.

Or rather, I hate it.

I need it more.

I'm not sure why—

Why do I need it?

Why do I want it?

Why do I—

(blinking blearily at the starlights

staring at the ceiling

counting the sheep that

eat trees and hopes and verve)

Suffer in this way?

I used to love

the sound of the clock.

But now it rankles on my nerves.

(tic

toc

tac

a lock

see where your dreams take you

[despair]

see where your fears create you

[don't share]

see where the lights go dim)

I used to be a fan of sleep.
