Inspiration

You cannot believe your eyes

Hands cupped under my arms, then I rise

Moments caught through a lens

Moments when we played pretend

Young American life, you will never know

Sacrifices, to raise me, that is your oath

Assurance when I gaze upon your face

My eyes widen, I am amazed

Years fly as I add inches to my height

Protecting me, this is what fills your pride

On days you work under the sun

Those days I only strive for fun

A lifetime of explaining right and wrong

We both age, soon it’ll be a good run

Times seeing a trigger of a gun

Your sacrifices, my selfishness, it’ll be gone

Your vision of a family of my own

Don’t worry, you will have a chance to watch them grow

Influence my children, teach them the family values

My love and gratitude belongs to you
